Editions, pricing and support
Skans is licensed per site — one appliance, one licence — and metered by managed endpoints: every device Skans gives an identity to, never seats, sockets or agents. Every edition, including the free one, has every capability that protects or manages the enclave. The sole exception is presentation: Notification Branding (your logo on the emails Skans sends) is Enterprise-only. Console white-labelling stays in every edition. Otherwise the editions differ in three things only: how many endpoints you may manage, which classes of signed content you may pull, and whether a human is attached.

How editions are bought #
Two lanes. Everything below Enterprise is self-serve by card with no salesperson and no support contract. Enterprise is arranged by phone, at a custom price above a floor, for organisations that buy through procurement.
- Card lane. Buy the edition, receive a licence key, run
--sus-register <key>on the appliance (or paste it into the console). Prices are monthly, by card (Essential $99, Professional $499, Business $999 a month), so no charge exceeds a typical corporate-card limit and nothing needs a purchase order; annual prepay is ten months. Receipts are itemised and carry your company name and a PO or cost-centre reference. Expansion blocks raise the endpoint allowance of an existing key; the appliance adopts the new figure at its next check-in. There is no invoice or purchase-order lane below Enterprise. - Enterprise lane. Custom price from $100,000 per year, a handful of accounts a year, including unlimited sites, a negotiated managed-endpoint allowance, a named support engineer, an MSA and a security review. Below that floor the right answer is Business plus expansion blocks.
Card checkout is live at the portal (/account/shop).
Add-ons #
| Add-on | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Expansion block, Essential | +25 endpoints | $25 / month |
| Expansion block, Professional | +100 endpoints | $50 / month |
| Expansion block, Business | +250 endpoints, up to 6 (2,500 per site) | $125 / month |
| Support ticket | one incident, best effort | $499 |
| MSP Console | multi-customer tenancy, white-label reports, consolidated alerting | included, free |
| SI Project Kit | project licence pool, offline bundle builder, handover evidence pack | included, free |
Add-ons never gate a capability on a site. The MSP Console and SI Project Kit are tooling for partners operating many sites; partners buy sites at list, earn on their own services, and are first line of support for their customers.
Support #
There is no support relationship below Enterprise. Documentation, the community channel and the appliance’s own diagnostics (--support-bundle, the health page) are the support. The one thing you can buy is a $499 per-incident ticket: one question, answered on a best-effort basis, with no response-time commitment.
Enterprise is the only edition with a named engineer. That is deliberate: support and sales are the two costs that scale with customers, and the product is built so that it needs neither. A ticket that does arrive is treated as a defect in the product, and the fix is what stops the next one.
Where the rule lives #
The edition ladder is one file in the update service, shared/Editions.cs; the appliance’s own registration state is described in Skans Update Service. The licence agreement itself is at skanslabs.com/license.
